    1. It seems ZIP is still the best format for encrypting and archiving a bunch of files. At least from my evening research. Well supported and public domain format.     Retraction on zip being good for encrypted archiving. I take it back, I had missed the fact that the default encryption (ZipCrypto) is broken, but still used (for compatibility) in a lot of places. If you use safe AES it's not universally compatible. I ended up with 7z for now
